docking the workspace to the project explorer but not to the object browser

i did something a few days ago that undocked my workspace from the project explorer. i can redock it but, for some reason, that docking is also attaching the workspace to the object browser (which i don't want). i've been moving, dragging, docking and undocking ever since and can't seem to get it restored to the way i like it. can anyone share the secret of how i get my originals setting back?  i want this

the workspace is blocking two important views of the object browser.
